1. How was your offseason?
habes : Probably bad but going five seasons with the same basic concept and not drafting got boring so I wanted to switch it up. Excited to have things to watch for in TC and young guys to camp. I definitely should’ve gotten my first back from Marty in our deal, but I wasn’t sure I wanted to tank and I feel like I can always get it back if I really need to.
Jayda - I think my offseason was solid. Upgraded to the ageless wonder David Robinson. Gave up an 04 first round pick, but if i can somehow pull off a championship this season itll be worth it. Got autoed Bobby Simmons, havent even looked who was left was out of town at a funeral this past weekend so didnt really check the site much. I past up on a rebuilding offer of Gilbert Arenas and Joe Johnson for Jason Kidd. That is the only off I even thought about for Kidd and didnt receive one offer for Houston. So, I do think I had a pretty good off-season.
douche - Nothing yet, failed to sign an MLE our starting PG signed cheap, Mark Jackson retired confident we can replace his production though so who cares. Hopefully no one dies in TC. and KG finally explodes and we'll be happy if he remain stagnant I can always trade an elite rebounder blocker.
2. Who won the offseason?
habes : DBW had the best offseason. I can’t remember what he gave up for LJ other than Pig’s pick. Maybe Redd? Solid deal for both but LJ is amazing and no one else made a comparable addition. Also got Ratliff for cheap. I think I’m missing another deal in there but Celts are nice. Didn’t like Gil or JJ at all in the draft, but no one really looked good anyway.
Jayda - I think the Rockets did fairly well. Celtics did add Arenas and Joe Johnson plus all the other trades he set up. It would have to be one of them definitely. If I had to choose it would be the Celtics and he nearly got JKidd too. WOW!
douche : Umm idk maybe Celtics with their rebuild? No one stands out. They a trade or two away from contention though. Maybe after pre I can finally say but judging by offseason move no one is a definite winner yet.
3. Was Gasol the right pick at 1?
habes : There wasn’t a clear #1 pick but I think I would’ve gone with Pau too because he could have 100 potential and a great two-way big is so much more valuable than anything else you could get i this class. In a vacuum I’d say he looks awful, but everyone was made so bad in this class that I think he and Chandler were the only candidates for the top pick.
Jayda - There were so many good players in this draft. I think I wouldve went with Gasol too. The potential of him being able to do 15/12/2 as a non-option wouldve been the most enticing. Players like Arenas or Tyson wouldve been up for consideration but I think gasol is the best all-around player in this draft.
douche : Yes, higher upside than Tyson imho. Easier to camp too just go def reb strength block pre-tc and he'll be very good from day 1. With Gil you still need lotto luck and hope his handles aint too shabby before makijg sure you camp right. those are the definite top 3 though.
4. Who was the most surprising lotto pick?
habes : Memo I guess? Last version he would’ve been nice because you could just move him to SF, but now you’re stuck with a big who isn’t going to rebound or get stocks. Tough to see him becoming a starter. I liked him IRL so I hope I’m wrong.
Jayda - Korloene Young. I dont see it. Maybe spencer beefed up a guy to make 01 an even better draft class, but that doesnt make much sense after 00 was dookie. Either way it was the most surprising pick.
douche : No one felt like all of them. I would pick Shane Battier a little lower though. Felt like there with chance to be a star than getting a ready player from day 1 that early.
5. Who was your favorite pick outside the lotto?
habes : Eddy Curry. He’s a disaster but has a few elite traits, he’s 19, and Spence likes making him good so who knows what the real potential is there. Class was rough top to bottom so not really seeing a lot of competition. Maybe Troy Murphy could be cool as a supersub 2-4 in time? Love the rebounding and outside shooting combination, but otherwise he’s looking bad.
Jayda - My favorite pick outside the lotto was Brendan Haywood. Not sure why he lasted so long. He was better then most of the bigs selected before him. Great pick by grizzlies. Pig good shit, but its expected when people pick Troy Murphy, Eddy Curry and desagna Diop befor ehim.
douche : Diop maybe, reminds me of Worm Namdor from last BBS. Worm Namdor was a champion last version and respected player who never lost his value with elite def and rebound, should be camped before TC though and probably not as high pot but who knows with potentials.
6. This past draft we saw a pretty much offensive player (Eddy Curry) and a pretty much defensive player (DeSanga Diop). Who will be more successful and why?
habes : Curry. Diop has mediocre blocks and D outside, which pretty much leaves him as a one-trick pony (rebounder) unless the blocks randomly explode. He’d be a stud with blocks but as is I think he’s a third stringer. Eddy I just have a gut feeling will be one of those guys who keeps getting better and has a fun prime, but who knows, he could just suck forever.
douche : Diop has an easier path of being a very good player, Eddy Curry seems like one of those gimmick fake players we had before no offense but unless he has high 90s or something closer pot felt like its Diop easy who will be more succesful.
Jayda - I think Diop has the better chance to stay relevant in this league because Curry isnt allowed to play SF like he did in the previous version when Ahsan made him a 300 lb SF. Diop will be a solid backup could end up starting but not sure he has the tools to play over 30 mpg even when fully developed.
7. Extending that thought, do you want to see more of those types of players?
habes : I’m all for variety. Neither of those guys really do anything for me but I like creative classes in general. We need a Paccelis Morlende dropped on our heads immediately.
douche : Hmm yes, need some steals though looking at the past few drafts as I catched up dont think we had surprise pick yet. Malik Allen is mid imho. Something like a Horace Walker mold. Maybe Kwame Brown is?
Jayda - I would like to see more specialists yes. Dont make every player the same. That shit is boring and repetitive. Be creative and give us players that can score 30 on 55% shooting or guys like diop that are ass.
8. Spencer added a TC position change rule. How much of a difference do you think it will make for players like Dirk?
habes : None. I don’t even follow the thinking behind this helping Dirk. Dirk is stuck at PF/C, so the last thing he needs is to develop as a wing. He needs blocks, strength, and rebounding. I don’t mind the position change rule or anything; I just think it’s not changing anything. Maybe moving a guy like Crawford to PF for TC to try to get a rebounding jump is a solid idea, but otherwise, I don’t see this mattering.
Jayda - I dont think itll make a huge difference tbh. I was never the person to move players for TC and move them back. i never seen players jump or develop better at different positions. Maybe I am wrong but i guess we will see this TC!
douche : I havent seen it, but it doesnt mateer if he can be there at TC but he cant play a lower postion, guys like you mentioned wont have their value elevated still. i mean lets say if your man got a scoring boost with SF TC but still stucked at PF/C with like 0.1 bpg it doesnt matter but like I said I havent look at the rule yet so less talk less mistakes.
9. Who is your favorite to win the title? Who are your biggest darkhorses?
habes : Nuggets are the easy favorite. Right now they’re miles ahead of everyone else. Last year was an FBB fluke, but I expect them to get the ring this year. As far as dark horses, I’ll say the Hornets. They could be really nice if TC goes well. I’ll also say the Rockets. Team should be pretty nice, but they may need a third big and an upgrade at SG before they can really contend.
Jayda - Raptors beat me in the playoffs. Ill take them since they have Timmy. Darkhorses probably the Hornets. I think they couldve been the favorites if they paired Houston and ray Allen together. Wouldve been the best scoring duo in the league. He never responded to my reply so I am assuming he didnt wanna move Artest for him. Imagine those 2 on the wings then the defensive bigs he has. SHEESH
douche : Suns and Suns I can finally go for the homecourt advantage, I won 2 series convincingly without home court and no bench at all so I think we can be better this year and improve from WCF defeat.
10. Any future plans your looking forward to?
habes : Going to Chicago this week which could be fun, IDK. Currently planning a trip for the week between school and camp for my kids. Not sure where we’re going yet but probably somewhere on the beach at a hotel that has a pool that will serve me chicken tenders and pina coladas until I drown.
Jayda - Are you talking bbs? real life? I cant wait to rebuild in BBS. Plan was always to rebuild in 05 so I will be sticking to that. My guys are locked up till then except the bigs. it will take some maneuvering but Ill be fine for 3 more seasons with JKidd on the squad. Hoping Montross after camps can be serviceable. In real life, i am looking forward to the summer. Get to spend a lot of time with my daughter who will be turning 1 year old in July so I should be home for when she starts to walk. She is already crawling when she wants.
douche :Run it back with home court in playoffs, one last hurrah as I cant prob run back a team next year and if they die in TC sadly. So this is it.
