I was going to do a mock but I feel at this stage a big board is more appropriate because I do not want to take need into consideration in any areas. This is a pretty solid draft. Easily one of the most anticipated in BBS History. Headline by big names like Lebron, Wade, Melo, Slavko Vranes and Bosh a tank fest has commenced. It's been 8 days sinec the class was dropped and a decent amount of questions were asked. Also happy Easter to all. After a busy morning I am home on my couch watching the Mets lose again.
1. LeBron James SF 6'9'' 250 19 A- C B+ C+ C+ A
Analysis- This one is easy. It's LeBron... plus he has a pretty cool stip giving him extra ACs or a chance to play PG. I am assuming no one goes the PG round for the rebounding hit but I think he will likely be a strong starter at the 2-4 as he develops. LeBron is probably the best prospect we have seen in BBS. Being able to AC him 5x means you can hit all scoring, handles and or stocks. I asked a bunch more questions on him which will likely just mean we need to like him more after seeing the answers
2. Dwyane Wade SG 6'4'' 220 22 B+ C B C+ C A
Analysis- This might be a tough call for some and I would be happy with Bosh but Wade just seems special. He is already good inside and jumper and we saw how that has impacted RIP Hamilton. Add blocking at the SG spot to that and he has an elite base. He might come with higher passing then you'd want plus he is coming in at 22 but you can look past that and use those 4 ACs to make him even better. With the change of the SF/SG rule I would just move him to SF and hope that he becomes a plus rebounder as well. Would someone consider moving him to PG and using a +8 handles? PG with good blocks? yeah.
3. Chris Bosh PF 6'11'' 235 19 B C D+ B C+ A
Analysis- Bosh is solid across the board and likely mediocre in rebounding. He is 19 with likely sky high pot. Bigs typically are more rare than wings so I could see him going 2 but you kinda gotta pick your path here. Do you go Inside + Mid or Blocks +O/D Reb in camps. Unfortunately Bosh does not have the AC stip allowing him to do everything camp wise. I mean at this point im nitpicking he would go 1 in the last few drafts. I would be ecstatic to have Bosh. At this point a possible outcome.
4. Carmelo Anthony SF 6'7'' 238 19 B B C C C+ A
Analysis- Another guy with sky high pot and 19 years old. Melo rounds out the top 4. I think hes the easy 4th pick out of the group and his name locks him into this pick. I love the name but i look at the notes and I just don't know. Good jumper, solid inside if he had good good i would be far more excited. Melo has the highest inside after Lebron and Wade on the file so maybe I am over thinking it. I am just having a hard time thinking what the best case for Melo is. Maybe like Paul P or peak Grant Hill if he becomes a dominant rebounder for a 3. He should score lights out.
5. Boris Diaw PF 6'8'' 250 21 C+ C B C+ C+ A
Analysis- "can start any position except PG". Pretty much saying hey lets give ya a shooting guard with PF rebounding. He is strong and quick but also shows signs of scoring. TC will be interesting. Camping him will be crucial. I originally liked Diaw over melo but then thought hes a bit raw. Did Spence give 6 guys 100 pot?
6. Chris Kaman C 7'0'' 265 21 B- C- C- B- B- B
Analysis- I mean it gets harder after 4 but a few guys I certainly think will pan out to be good players. Look at Kamans notes. His pot aint A but it’s the highest B. He has Good strength. Solid post defense and jumpshot. Mediocre inside scoring and blocks. He has B- rebounding which is rare for a spec these days, despite this class being pretty good there. Caveman seems like he has a good shot to be an 18/12/2 center if camped right with some luck in TC.
7. Josh Howard SF 6'7'' 210 23 B- B- C B- C+ B
Analysis- Howard has solid jumper, mediocre inside and 3. Honestly pretty sexy starting ratings for the lad. Maybe I have him too low now that I am writing this but I will let the people draftign decide. I liked Howard in real life
8. Sofoklis Schortsanitis C 6'10'' 345 18 B D+ F C C+ A
Analysis- Would I be surprised if he went 6? Would I be if he went 10? 12? no to all 3. Sofo has A pot, is 18 and has elite inside scoring. The fact his jumper isnt poor and it is mediocore is a great sign as well. He has Good post D which i solid, he has mediocore blocks. Ill need broph to explain these ratings. Its like the D+, F and C all are here to fool us. Im calling it out! Watch him go 1 in redraft article.
9. David West PF 6'9'' 250 23 B- C C B C+ A
Analysis- David West at 8 is damn solid. A real life allstar comes with elite post D, good jumper and solid inside. He is like a less lazy Zbo. West should be a force and an enforcer in the league. NBA ready player who can likely give ya 18/10/2 stocks out the gate. The Medicore stocks are workable.
10. Kyle Korver SG 6'7'' 212 22 C A- C- C C- B
Analysis- I debated if Korver was worth top 10 or later because he certainly has his flaws. But in a league that is deflated he already is elite (85+) in 3 pointer and jumper. +8 his inside quickness and strength he could become a monster at SG putting up some buckets
11. Kendrick Perkins C 6'10'' 270 19 C D+ F+ B- B- B
Analysis- Bigs have value and KP comes in strong as hell and can shoot the FT much better then expected. No one expects him to have volume or really wants him to . If he can develop into a block reb big that would be great for pick 10 in a draft. depending on what a GM values he could go high as 6.
12. Darko Milicic C 7'0'' 250 18 C+ D+ D C+ C+ A
Analysis- Darko has solid notes and high pot. could be a total trap pick but at this point of the draft probably a worthy risk to have a solid big. Darko was a huge bust in real life so would be wrong of me to expect him to be as good as he was last league.
13. Dahntay Jones SG 6'6'' 225 20 B- B- C- C C- B
Analysis- Top (filtered) inside in the class after Bosh and the highest SG Besides Wade. Good jumper and bad rebounding. So if i add that up good jumping, mediocre strength. If his rebounding is that low with those two stats I assume the inside is high. Either way interesting spec since he can also handle and steal the ball
14. Xue Yuyang C 7'0'' 265 21 C C C- C B C
Analysis- The top rebounder in the class with interesting notes coming through in questions. A lot of mystique behind the 21 year old 7 footer with C pot. I would take him for the rebounding alone and hope the pot is higher then it is.
Other guys I like a lot who could have gone picks 8-14
Carlos Delfino SF 6'6'' 230 21 C+ B C C+ C B
Kirk Hinrich PG 6'4'' 190 23 C B B C+ C- B
Mickael Pietrus SF 6'6'' 215 21 C C+ C B C B
Travis Outlaw SF 6'9'' 210 19 C+ C+ D+ B C B
Leandro Barbosa PG 6'3'' 194 21 C B C+ C D+ B
TJ Ford PG 6'0'' 165 20 C+ C B+ C+ C B
Mike Sweetney C 6'8'' 275 21 B- C- D- C+ B B
Nick Collison PF 6'10'' 255 24 C C D+ C+ B B
Mo Williams PG 6'1'' 198 21 C B+ C+ C C- B
