I was at the fucking Hawks draft party that night. Mike Woodson called Marvin Williams “the next Kevin Garnett” and I knew we were so fucked. Lmao I do actually have a good story from that night- I was doing an exchange program that year for French- one of those where guy comes over for 3 weeks and then I go with him for 3 weeks. It was great fun. Anyways, Hawks had Boris Diaw in those days, and he was at the draft party signing autographs. So as we get to him in the line, I say to Boris that “hey this guy here is from France!” and Boris lights up and starts chatting with my friend for a minute. Then we have to keep moving because the line gets impatient. Later on we’re walking around the concourse and we run into Boris and his brother and friends. He noticed us and waves us over and proceeds to shoot the shit with my friend about France and life and where he’s from etc etc. i’m freaking out the entire time. He invited us to go to the club with him and his brother that night, but since we were 14 at the time we sadly had to pass that up. But he signed a bunch of shit for us and gave my French friend his French address and told him to hit him up if he was ever in the area. It was an insane experience. |
