I had hoped to get the RT out pre-draft, alas that was not to be. As I get re-accustomed to BBS, I had some questions, and I hope you all enjoy our roundtable, and the knowledge of these fine GMs that they put forth.
What’s your draft strategy when you look at the notes and what in the notes do you zero in on?
Leon Rose - I usually am looking at the same things. I’ll lock in on handles, stocks. Everything is usually mediocre anyways.
Jayda - I like players with good handles, scoring catigories. Bigs rebounding strength and stocks.
kobe - Good question, it's tough with everyone being made so meh in these drafts but in bigs I look for blocks, strength, jumpshot, rebounding in that order. And for wings and PGs you just don't want their inside or handles to be too bad really.
This season had the first CY? And then Broph stepped down, who do you think the next GM to not make it will be, either by choice or CY?
Leon Rose - I don’t think any GM should ever be CYd with a 5 year CY. It would be pathetic.
Jayda - I’ll probably get CYd next. Taking KG kills my Tank next season so it’s Westbrook and Klay!
kobe - Hmm not sure, there are a few guys who aren't very active who might get taken out by CY but it's pretty easy to win right now with the state of the league if you just try a little.
What upcoming draft are you most looking forward to? Which player do you plan on trying to tank for?
Leon Rose - Looking to 2017 and 2018. I’ll need to build around Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby. No doubt.
Jayda - Julius Randle is a guy I’d like to have this go around. He’s a very good all around player!
kobe - 2012 looks great, AD and Lillard either would be nice for me.
If you are tearing down, and cannot get good offers for you players what is your strategy?
Leon Rose - If you think the player will hold value into the season or next season, keep him. If not, it makes sense to move the player for whatever you can get. I’d rather move a guy than have him cost my team a top pick if I’m tanking. Picking a direction is key.
Jayda - to trade them for picks or keep them. I moved JR on a discount but still got decent value for him. Hard to get value for anything here.
kobe - I just trade them for the best offer I get, I don't hold on to players. But still can't get a top pick sigh
What do you think about the new meta of the league when it seems the inflation is under control. Is it really or?
Leon Rose - It’s not really under control, but it’s impossible to keep it under control after a few seasons. The potential boosts will make inflation more of a thing.
Jayda - There’s no new meta. There’s only a few elite players. Oh well though.
kobe - I think the ratings would be fine right now if we didn't have Melo and Curry but whatever, nothing we can really do about it.
After Klay who do you like the most in the draft? Do you think Kimba has a chance to be the stud he was before his knees failed him?
Leon Rose - Idk who Kimba is, but I do love Kemba IRL. Here, he looks eh. I’d still probably take him. Morris with his stip is interesting.
Jayda - I like Kawhi the most. Klay is a great consolation for me at 4 though. I really expected it to be Kyrie at 4.
kobe - I picked Marcus Morris at 5 so obviously I liked him the best. I thought about Kemba and Jonas as well but eh Marcus seems to have a little easier path to being good.
Who in the draft notes do you see as the sleeper, that will be actually really good? Or do you think it’s all filler past the top 5?
Leon Rose - I am not naming my sleeper before the draft. Likely all role players anyways…
Jayda - I liked Kenneth Farris depending on how his blocking develops. The rest is there. Worst case he’s a better Humphrey?
kobe - I think this draft is pretty deep actually. But it all comes down to getting lucky in TC. Everyone is so raw so it's hard to really tell.
Are Steph and Melo so good that no team has a chance if they don’t have one of them?
Leon Rose - I am not sure if a team has a chance. In hindsight, I should have kept Melo, but winning with him was boring. Also didn’t care to hear everyone bitch and moan that he was a cheat code. I’m up for the challenge to build a squad that can beat them though.
Jayda - I think it’s easier to build around them. I think if the team around them isn’t g at least good they can and will lose. Let’s see they are both in the West now.
