The first draft has come and gone in the blink of an eye and it already looks like we have some steals and some busts. Let’s do a quick dive in and take a look at the draft and how it should have shaken our post TC.
1. Toronto Raptors- Tim Duncan
Actual Pick: Tim Duncan
200 Tim Duncan C 7 34.3 23.7 8.7 3.0 1.1 1.4 2.4 .402 .811 .000
He’s elite, folks. This pick would not change. Duncan has all of the tools that you’re looking for in a franchise player. I mean, look at his stats as a rookie! 24/9. Matt has his guy for the next decade… or until he trades him for 17 second rounders.
2. Philadephia 76ers - Ricky Davis
Actual Pick: Tracy McGrady
132 Ricky Davis SG 10 28.5 20.8 4.8 1.6 1.1 0.3 2.5 .456 .933 .333
Tmac was raw and had a rough TC. We will talk more about him in a few, but here it’s between David and Billups and I’m completely unbiased!! Ha! But no, an A- B 18 year old wing? Sheesh. He has a lot of potential left in the tank and will be a great wing here.
3. Charlotte Hornets - Chauncey Billups
Actual Pick: Ricky Davis
198 Chauncey Billups PG 8 32.6 23.0 5.0 7.9 1.3 0.1 3.0 .537 .850 .548
You obviously can make a very strong argument for Billups at 2. It’s really 2A and 2B imo. Billups has what you want in a PG. He needs to improve his handles. If I’m not mistaken, he has +5 left to go to his handles and another +4 available. He might never be an elite handles guy, but will put the ball in the hoop.
4. Minnesota Timberwolves - Tracy McGrady
Actual Pick: Stephen Jackson
192 Tracy McGrady SG 4 25.8 12.0 5.8 4.0 2.0 0.5 2.8 .435 .833 .250
It is crazy how raw he is and that potential going to B leaves a lot to be desired. However, it’s TMac. Name value alone, he’s worth a top pick. I’m hopefully that with camps and a few more TCs, he’ll be a good player. He may never be elite, but a 20PPG is likely.
5. Denver Nuggets - Ron Mercer
Actual Pick: Chauncey Billups
195 Ron Mercer SF 8 34.8 17.0 4.1 2.4 1.8 0.0 2.0 .474 .760 .429
Ron is so good. He’s efficient, he doesn’t turn it over a lot and can steal. What a steal by the Knicks. Good job by Andy. Once camped out, Mercer will be one of the better wings in the league.
6. Indiana Pacers - Bobby Jackson
Actual Pick: Keith Van Horn
178 Bobby Jackson PG 10 31.7 19.5 4.6 6.5 1.3 0.3 1.8 .442 .857 .432
I mean, cmon. Comparable numbers to Billups, but he’s completely uncamped and has no turnover issues. 1.8TOPG looks to be elite for the current file. The ability to +25 his scoring, makes Bobby extremely enticing and he’ll be an elite PG once camped.
7. New York Knicks - Stephen Jackson
Actual Pick: Brad Miller
172 Stephen Jackson SF 6 27.8 15.5 5.0 3.5 1.0 0.2 2.0 .545 .769 .688
Jackson averaged 4TOPG in pre, which raised some eyebrows. After Sim 1, he’s gotten that number down to 2. It looks like he’s uncamped and should be a hell of a player if tyga camps him soon. He should be in the mold of Sprewell. Really like Jackson.
8. Portland Trailblazers - Kelvin Cato
Actual Pick: Kelvin Cato
186 Kelvin Cato C 9 28.2 8.3 10.3 1.7 0.8 1.4 1.2 .491 .778 .000
At the draft, I thought Foyle should have gone above Cato. But I was wrong! Shocker! Cato has the tools of a nice big man. He blocks, rebounds, won’t take shots away from the wings. Broph has his 5 man for a while.
9. Los Angeles Lakers - Derek Anderson
Actual Pick: Tim Thomas
188 Derek Anderson SG 7 21.9 15.3 2.6 2.1 0.6 0.0 1.1 .562 .813 27.4 9.0 3.8 1.3 0.9 0.3 1.1 .438 .625 .250
Anderson, Jackson and Mercer round out my big time steals in this draft. The dude can score. Just look at those numbers. He has +22 left. Jeeze. We are looking at a future stud right here and the #2 option to AI for a long time. Awesome pick.
10. Los Angeles Clippers - Tim Thomas
Actual Pick: Mo Taylor
194 Tim Thomas SF 8 27.4 9.0 3.8 1.3 0.9 0.3 1.1 .438 .625 .250
Thomas was traded to the Nuggets at the draft for picks and looks like he has some promise after TC. He had a good pre, but a poor first sim. He sits at B inside after camps there and has some volume which he showed in preseason. Once that outside is camped, he can be a very good scoring option for you. Solid player.
11. Chicago Bulls - Scott Pollard
Actual Pick: Brevin Knight
182 Scot Pollard C 8 21.6 7.8 7.1 0.8 0.4 1.4 0.4 .457 .645 .000
Again, I thought 12 was too high for Pollard at the draft, but I was wrong. He looks to be at worst, a great third big with starter potential. He’s been camped some, but has some left to improve those boards. Good pick here by Chip.
12. Atlanta Hawks - Adonyal Foyle
Actual Pick: Scott Pollard
193 Adonal Foyle C 9 25.7 4.4 7.4 1.4 0.4 1.1 1.2 .429 .588 .000
Foyle kind of simmed like shit but I’m chalking that up to a small sample size. His notes said good blocks. I believe in the. He is completely uncamped as well. +17 to rebounds and +8 to blocks and you have yourself a starting big man. Still a fan of Foyle.
13. Oklahoma City Thunder- Brad Miller
Actual Pick: Adonyal Foyle
133 Brad Miller C 8 25.8 8.1 8.8 2.9 0.8 1.1 0.8 .323 .846 .333
Boring Brad was the name given by Andy. It’s fitting. I don’t know what to make of Brad Miller, but I will take him over KVH who looks like ass cheeks. I believe he as +14 left, so there’s room to grow. Unless he has an amazing Tc, I don’t see him being a great starter. Should be a nice depth piece though. But hey, Andy has Mercer!
1. Toronto Raptors- Tim Duncan
