1. Any surprises over the first 20 days of the season? Could be an overachieving team, or underachieving team. Could even be a player you've been keeping up with.
braz- I think the biggest surprises the bucks. They just look fantastic from top to bottom. Hawks are also doing really well year over year.
Nyb- The Bucks are a surprise. 14-2 is great and I'm sure not even they expected that. idk. I thought the Lakers would be better. Smith's numbers are at least getting better and obviously he's a long term investment but right now he's pretty blah.
Ss- The surprise is how bad we are with all my starters back. Chris Webber is underperforming, Sabonis is underperforming.... taking a hit the older guys was expected but Webber is weird especially with his high scouted.
2. Best free agent pick up you've noticed thus far?
braz- back to the above. The bucks got a pg on the lle who’s very starter worthy as you can tell. I still think the biggest signing was Ed Smith though for the lakers. Like getting a free top 5 pick.
Nyb- I'll go Davis from the Bucks. For around the MLE, they got a solid big that blocks shots, rebounds decently and isn't totally terrible on offense. Currently, that's a straight caliber big.
Ss- I dont know, I dont see anyone standing out.... Polynice resigning and performing how he is doing is probably the only thing I guess but i dont know if that counts as a free agent pickup if you resign him to your own team, but I guess it does if he didnt resign in resignings.
3. How's your team doing? What are you happy with? Also what are you looking to improve?
braz- Not good. We suck and we need a scorin 2 and no one wants to trade with us. Hopeful for pp, vc or worst case Larry Hughes in the new year. Ideally we can put together a reset next year. I hate tanking but the creation draft went poorly for me
Nyb- I'm fine with my team. I really like how Mercer looks. Boring Brad is whatever. I think bigs develop slower so I can live with how he looks. Wesley is doing what he does. Daniels needs more camps and TC but so far the main young guys are decent enough. Just need to add that number 1 guy.
Ss- Kind of hit on it on point 1, pretty underwhelming. Dont think we were title conteneders, but going from 50+ wins, to looking like barely hitting 42 is very strange especially when all my starters are back and no one took a big hit in TC at least pure letter ratings wise. Im happy being in playoffs, but clearly need some more defense especially up front. Could use a defensive C for sure. Webber seems to be a big stocks guy.
4. Any decision you regret since the creation draft?
Braz- going 3 pages of PMs with greeme. Lovely guy but I moved back 2 spots got Camby instead of Ben when I’d prefer Ben! And his picks suck!
Nyb- I regret not making moves earlier. I feel like I missed out on certain deals. Granted I was busy but still. Kind of annoying to miss out on certain things. I really wanted Nash during the draft and seeing him go one pick before hurts.
Ss- No regrets so far... drafted who I wanted to draft. Webber is better than I expected. I think I had a great strategy of drafting a great young player like Webber who I can build around for 5+ seasons or more, and then draft solid veterans to be able to compete for the first couple of seaasons and then tank when it becomes easier to get a top pick as other teams try to avoid CY.
5. Who are some of the players you're targeting in the upcoming draft if you're tanking? If you're a contender, it could be a player you think is realistic for you as well.
braz- I am still going after the big guns. Give me one of Dirk, VC, PP. After that I’d go best player available despite having Billups and Tim Thomas (if i needed to draft a Bibby or Jameson). I like Shard and Kandi too. Fun fact my mom taught Al Harrington when he was in middle school.
Nyb- Dirk is the main guy. Not sure how he'll do as a PF but still. I doubt Spencer busts him. VC and Pierce should be solid and if I end up with either, at least it gives me a solid 3 man wing rotation. I would need to find bigs and likely a starting PG eventually
Ss- Dont have any 1sts so really cant say im interested in this draft and dont think ill trade into it at all.
6. The bottom of each conference looks like a battle of mediocrity. It could be a possibility that teams under .500 make sneak into the playoffs this year. Which teams do you expect to secure those 7/8 seeds in each conference?
braz- For the east the nets will get better once healthy. I think the Hornets are still fringe and can make a play for improvement. Wiz should make it as well. Now do the west rockets jazz and kings all were playoff bound last year, now battling for the last spots. I’ll leave the Jazz out.
Nyb- In the East, the Bulls and Wiz hold onto the 7 and 8th seed. I don't think any other East team is rushing to make it really. In the West, Kings and Lakers make the 7th and 8th seed. I think the West, for now, has much more depth then the East.
Ss- Ill say the Jazz and me for 7th and 8th in the west, dont see the Lakers sticking in playoffs and in the east probably brookly and hornets as is.. the east is really bad so who knows
7. 5 seasons from now what's the goal you have set for your team as far as where you expect to be?
braz- that’s like looking into March? Idk if my math is right but I surely hope we have a strong contender going on. When you sell all your picks for creation draft depth matters more. Need to be smart to get A1 top guys but also good players to fill out a team.
Nyb- tbh, in 5 seasons, just hoping to still have the team period. Considering I tanked, for sure hoping that in 5 seasons we'd have a nice core built around, say, Dirk.
Ss- To be a steady 50 win team and build around Webber. If I can hit big in one of the upcoming FAs and in a draft would be great. I think there will be an influx of great PG coming up so if I can sign a stocks 5 or even 3, draft a good PG should be set can even compete for a title eventually.
8. Which Xmas game you looking forward to the most? Could be NBA or NFL lol.
braz- nfl! Got fantasy playoffs and my eagles. My playoff match up I have deeboo and kittle vs Purdy and Auiyk. Someone is getting a heart break on Xmas. Hope it ain’t me
Nyb- Knicks Vs Bucks. I mean, they've only played like 5 times so far this year. What's one more game? I guess Giants/Eagles. Need the Giants to win.
Ss- I havent watched NBA in years, and since losing in fantasy football havent been following nfl much.... once playoffs start though Ill def watch football again. Go Bucs.
