Also I'm gonna note the irony of me- at the LEAST a very poor GM by anyone's measure of GMing- saying all of this. least you know I've always known. It's all about trying to change how I do things now.

Its 2 seasons from now. How you know its a lotto pick. 1) You don't have your pick this year to add a super-talented player in this super-deep draft 2) Next year's draft has less gamechangers than any single draft in NBA history. So even though you have your pick- unlikely to pick up an impact player to dramatically affect your chances in that following season. 3) Barkley is 35 and expiring- no guarantee he's back. And even if he does come back- I would almost bet money he won't be helping you in the season that you dealt (either because he's retired, signed with another team, or has massive TC drops because he's old) 4) Mash and Sheed both expire after next season. There's 0 guarantee you have both of them back the year of the pick you traded. 5) Even with Mash and Sheed- you have no talent surrounding them and therefore you're 20-36. 6) The only bird FA players you have this year are Barkley and Hawkins. Barkley could retire/leave, and then that just leaves Hawkins. After next season, Cotton is the only bird FA player besides Sheed and Mash. So- how are you going to acquire more talent? Gonna be hard for you to match salaries. 7) That 01 first had good value because it would likely be near the top of a solid draft (Gasol, Joe Johnson, Tyson Chandler, Z-Bo, Gerald Wallace, Arenas, Okur) 8) And again- how are you going to improve your team without having your pick this year? The only hope you have is getting lucky in FA and grabbing one of the expiring late-first/2nd round creation guys that hit the market- but EVERYBODY ELSE also has that FA cap too. I love ya Lums but this trade was silly. 5

No CY anymore so we aren't threatening the tenure of a GM coming on and Lumley wants to have fun. I think that's why we all are here right?

I am still operating in this CY mentality though, it's not been tough to shake.
