So, 4 drafts in, I'm taking the top 5 in each draft and ranking them. Rankings are based on current stats and potential somewhat. Name value matters let's be honest so I did try to ignore names. A player with A potential should get much better obviously but with FBB, A potential doesn't guarantee growth. Fits in with the Hedo/TMac part that I'm sure will be mentioned.
1. Tim Duncan C 24 6'11'' 250 A- C C A A- B - Raptors
STATS: C 45 35.3 23.9 12.3 2.9 1.4 2.3 1.3 .481 .817 1.000
Draft: 1997 1st overall
Info: Seems the obvious 1st guy. Had a pretty good career so far as a consistent double-double high scoring big that gets stocks.
2. Chauncey Billups PG 24 6'3'' 220 C+ A- B A C B - Nuggets
PG 49 39.6 20.9 6.5 11.3 2.0 0.2 3.0 .490 .919 .443
Draft: 1997 5th overall
Info: Billups has had a great season for the Nuggets. One of, if not the best, rebounding PG’s in the league. Solid scorer on great shooting percentages. Turnovers are a bit up there but there’s no doubt that Billups carries high value currently.
3. Manu Ginobili SG 23 6'6'' 205 B A- C C+ C B - Lakers
STATS: SG 47 37.7 24.4 6.8 2.9 1.7 0.2 1.5 .476 .881 .457
Draft: 1999 3rd overall
Info: Manu losing that A potential hurts his stock a bit but he’s still damn good. Manu came in red hot last season and looked like he would be a star SG very soon. While his timeline may have slowed down some, there’s no doubt he’ll be a top tier SG soon.
4. Tracy McGrady SF 21 6'8'' 210 B+ A- A- C+ B B
STATS: SF 46 35.6 27.1 8.2 4.6 1.5 0.5 2.0 .476 .850 .425
Draft: 1997 2nd overall
Info: TMac doesn’t play great D (or well, good D even) but his stocks to TO ratio is about even. Good rebounding. Efficient scoring. He gets the job done. To be honest, I didn’t know TMac had gotten this much better as after his first TC, it was a rough look.
5. Baron Davis PG 21 6'3'' 209 B- B B+ A- C A - Knicks
STATS: PG 51 36.5 21.7 4.9 8.8 1.8 0.2 2.9 .448 .837 .388
Draft: 1999 4th overall
Info: An interesting season for BD. Not really a great one for him on offense and his turnovers have increased. His numbers have taken a dip since the Wesley trade but his potential is there. If he can develop his offense, he’ll be a stud for sure.
6. Hedo Turkoglu SF 21 6'10'' 220 B+ B+ B C+ C A - Kings
STATS: SF 52 32.0 21.5 5.8 3.3 1.2 0.2 2.2 .460 .854 .391
Draft: 2000 2nd overall
Info: He looks great. His biggest knock is his turnovers along with rebounding. They are terrible but at SF, you’d like a bit more. Kind of nitpicking really. As long as his potential holds up, he will likely be a really good SF for years to come.
7. Andrei Kirilenko SF 19 6'9'' 220 B C+ C+ A- B+ A - Magic
STATS: SF 43 34.2 11.0 7.6 3.5 1.8 1.2 1.3 .447 .726 .391
Draft: 1999 1st overall
Info: Good stocks fella. Solid rebounding. Offense isn’t terrible really. I believe pig essentially called him a high level glue guy. Being able to play SF gives him a big advantage. Does he carry more value as a high level stock/rebounding guy over someone like Pierce? Guess it depends on the team.
8. Paul Pierce SF 23 6'7'' 235 B+ A- C C+ C+ B - Spurs
STATS: SF 49 35.4 31.8 7.7 2.7 1.7 0.6 3.2 .484 .871 .393
Draft: 1998 2nd overall
Info: Went from “he’s a bust” to “he can score”. That’s an upgrade. His tunovers are pretty up there and that might hurt his value overall. His mumbers also might be spiked because the Spurs don’t really have anyone else that can score like that. That said, it shouldn’t take away from the fact that Pierce is currently a walking bucket. That turnovers it over. A lot.
9. Rashard Lewis SF 21 6'10'' 215 B- A C B C+ B - Celtics
STATS: SF 50 33.3 22.7 8.5 3.1 1.1 1.0 1.6 .476 .849 .408
Draft: 1998 5th overall
Info: Good scorer. Good rebounding. Solid stocks. Can’t say I expected Lewis to be this good right now. He started this season hot but his numbers have fallen off. That said, his ability to play SF helps him out a solid amount.
10. Dirk Nowitzki PF 22 7'0'' 245 B A- D C B B - Magic
STATS: PF 43 29.9 22.0 9.7 1.5 0.9 0.3 1.1 .449 .860 .443
Draft: 1998 1st overall
Info: Tough guy to rank honestly. His numbers are ok. His ratings are ok. If he was at SF, he’d be a lot higher. At PF though, he isn’t really ideal. We can have that discussion about if Dirk is good or not but man, at PF, he’s not my ideal. He and Shard can be switched and it wouldn't bother me really. Dirk SHOULD get better really.
11. Elton Brand PF 21 6'9'' 275 B+ C- C B- A- B - Wolves
STATS: PF 41 33.2 14.1 12.6 2.2 0.9 1.4 2.1 .433 .615 .000
Draft: 1999 2nd overall
Info: After trading 30 picks for him, the Wolves watched Brand decide to chill during the 1st TC. He had a better TC this offseason at least. His numbers, rebounding aside, haven’t been up to par tbh. High turnovers for a big. Subpar FT shooting. OK at best offensive numbers. He’ll get better I believe but there’s an uphill climb that needs to happen for Brand to be worthy of what was paid for him.
12. Ron Artest SF 21 6'7'' 260 B- B C A- C+ B - Hornets
STATS: SF 42 33.2 11.6 6.2 2.3 2.4 0.3 1.2 .438 .817 .400
Draft: 1999 5th overall
Info: He’s solid. Great defender. Nothing exciting on offense. He’s Rick Fox right now. That’s ok. Rick Fox is a beautiful player. Obviously, I expect Artest to become better, especially on offense but for now, he’s a defender and the 5th option on offense really. His rebounding is ok as well. Almost forgot that.
13. Kenyon Martin PF 23 6'9'' 234 B- D+ C- A- B B - Rockets
PF 49 31.7 9.7 10.6 2.5 0.9 2.0 1.5 .397 .590 .000
Draft: 2000 1st overall
Info: Solid big although his offensive numbers are non-existent. His rebounding and blocks are carrying him right now. I don’t believe the expectation for Kmart was ever to be an offensive force but he can’t be a negative there either. Right now, he’s that. Acceptable for now as the Rockets are tanking.
14. Joel Przybilla C 21 7'1'' 255 C D+ D- A- A- B - Bulls
STATS: C 42 26.7 5.7 9.8 1.1 0.7 1.9 1.2 .381 .642 .000
Draft: 2000 3rd overall
Info: He’s a solid rebounding/blocks big. That’s really it. Nothing much on offense. He kind of is what he is currently and that’s likely where he will stay. That’s not a bad thing.
15. Michael Redd SG 21 6'6'' 220 C+ A- C- C C A - Celtics
STATS: SG 46 31.3 17.7 5.4 2.1 1.2 0.1 1.6 .454 .797 .415
Draft: 2000 4th overall
Info: Got a while to go to be honest. I’m also tired. He’s not at the bottom because it seems like he has potential left and he should grow. The big benefit he has right now is that his outside game looks good. As long as he keeps developing an already strength, he’ll be a pretty good SG.
16. Jamal Crawford SG 20 6'5'' 185 B A- B- C D A - Pacers
STATS: SG 48 33.4 21.8 3.7 4.1 1.4 0.1 1.5 .500 .881 .401
Draft: 2000 5th overall
Info: I’m a bit surprised that JC can’t play PG. He is and will be a solid scorer going forward no doubt but his rebounding will likely hurt him as a starter going forward. If he can fix that though, he’ll be a good SG. At D rebounding though, eh.
17. Antawn Jamison SF 24 6'8'' 223 B+ C+ C- C+ B B - Knicks
STATS: SF 51 27.3 13.8 7.9 1.2 0.7 0.1 0.7 .432 .815 .345
Draft: 1998 4th overall
Info: Jamison is an ok player. That’s where we are it. He puts up better numbers at PF it seems but really, his ability to play SF is his biggest benefit. He needs another good TC or else, he’ll be a solid role player and that’s it.
18. Ricky Davis SG 21 6'6'' 195 A- B+ C B- C- B - Raptors
SG 45 28.7 14.0 4.2 1.5 1.4 0.2 1.5 .460 .818 .357
Draft: 1997 3rd overall
Info: Ricky has gotten better so there’s that. He seems like he’ll be a solid 6th man type but for him to have the ability to start, it likely won’t be in Toronto as they’ve already tried and benched him. As a starter it seems like his turnovers are too much considering his inconsistent offense.
19. Vince Carter SG 23 6'6'' 220 A- B- C+ C C B - Clippers
STATS: SG 42 32.8 21.1 5.7 3.0 1.4 0.4 2.1 .462 .811 .329
Draft: 1998 3rd overall
Info: Take Corey Maggette. Make him worse. You have Vince. He got the +15 so that might help but right now, VC has no real positive going for him aside from potential.
20. Stephen Jackson SF 22 6'8'' 219 B B+ C+ B- C C - Heat
STATS: SF 48 31.5 17.6 4.5 2.7 1.0 0.2 2.0 .439 .792 .348
Draft: 1997 4th overall
Info: Ass
1. Tim Duncan C 24 6'11'' 250 A- C C A A- B - Raptors
STATS: C 45 35.3 23.9 12.3 2.9 1.4 2.3 1.3 .481 .817 1.000
