Id need a fleshed out idea. Start XXX Years From Now 1 Buyout allowed every X Years. I would probably make this fairly long. Buyouts only allowed after the file flip and before end of draft. Player who is bought out goes into FA for that year. All remaining contract money goes against the cap hit for the upcoming year. Open to suggestions.

Lol of course when it benefits certian people in time of need Don't get this, most GM's who would make a major buyout right now would be stuck over the hard cap.

instead of all remaining contract money maybe its a % of all remaining this because otherwise the buyout becomes pointless with a $78 million cap. You'd go over way too quickly. and maybe it's spread out over 1, 2, or 5 years. Could be you want to buy out a large 2 year contract and spread that hit over a longer period of time. IDK. just spitballin'.

No NBA player is going to take a haircut on guaranteed money in a buyout. 2nd point would work, but then again.....If I have a two year contract why would I want it spread over 5 years? Only way this works if you have 3 year contract and spread over 2, 4 over 3, etc.

You could set up a system where you spread a 2 year deal over 5 years but pay an X premium to do so on a year-to-year basis but I think that gets too complicated.

Player A has 40 million on a two year contract.
Player A is bought out over the next 6 years.
Player A buyout fee for this is 50% of the contract.
GM Has Dead Cap money of $10 million dollars over the next 6 years, per year, to facilitate.
I think it gets too complicated to manage.....

Only way this works if you have 3 year contract and spread over 2, 4 over 3, etc. In my theory, it's imaginary, but in other leagues we treat it as the player gets all the money but the league allows a certain percentage to be taken off the cap hit. Like, let's say the total of the contract is 2 years, $50 million. 75% of that is $37.5 million, so you could spread that hit over 5 seasons for a $7.5 million hit per season. 'cause otherwise, you won't be able to buy it out in one season. You could even go one better and do it as a waiver claim process- during the buyout, anyone could claim (reverse order of the previous season), and if someone did a "full value" claim, they get the contract as it sits. They could also do a "half-value" claim, and get the contract at half the price. So say the contract is $25,000,000, $25,000,000. Team claims it at half price, then the new contract is $12,500,000, $12,500,000. then, the team that cut him gets somewhat of a break and gets to half the value of the cut being spread out over however many years. We do it this way in another league I'm in but I'm probably not explaining it well enough. I could c/p the rules here. We have a 50/70 soft/hard cap scenario there.

Player A has a two year contract worth 40 million Player A takes a one year buyout worth 20 million Player A wants a 15% of all TikTok revenue generated by the team in perpetuity. TikTok gets banned in congress 6 months later Player A is sad Player A is angry Player A starts operating an underground gambling den as he has hedged his future TikTok earnings to acquire debt for his Cheeseburger Empire Consumption of Meat gets banned in congress 6 months later. Player A is distraught. Player A sits on the parapet wall of a skyscraper with a bottle of whiskey in his hand..... .....too complicated for Spence to manage IMO.

I like the idea (I feel like this was discussed before) of teams being able to buyout older players. Say a Mitch Richmond if he was in indy type thing.
