1. Cleveland Cavaliers - Yao Ming
Cavs got lucky and got Yao after being allowed to tank with Horace Jenkins. Pretty disgusting but it is what it is. Hope he is the biggest bust ever.
Grade: F-
2. Indiana Pacers - Amare Stoudemire
Big drop off from Yao as spence completely shit on Amare for some reason. He’s gonna need to get the right camps and have the right TCs to be any good but if he does put it all together then he has the most upside of anyone besides Yao so 2 is the right spot I reckon.
Grade: B-
3. Golden State Warriors (from Clippers) - Tayshaun Prince
I like Prince a lot, he had better notes than Amare and has an easier path to being good. He just needs some scoring camps and some solid TCs and he should be a good starter at least. Might not ever be a high volume guy but should be a really good all around player. Easy pick at 3.
Grade: A-
4. Atlanta Hawks - Caron Butler
Hawks went back and forth with this pick but I think they made the right choice here at 4 as Butler probably has the most potential of anyone left. Butler had decent notes besides his handles and really just needs to get that outside to A-. C defense but good steals so no biggie.
Grade: B+
5. San Antonio Spurs - Udonis Haslem
Boring pick but Haslem was the best player available unfortunately. Should be a really solid 2nd/3rd big. Needs camps though so that's why I'm doing this article.
6. Memphis Grizzlies - Carlos Boozer
Not a huge fan of bigs like Boozer but he has some great notes besides the no blocks. As long as he gets to A- boards and his jumpshot gets to 80+ then he should be fine. And there was no one better to pick here and he could've went higher but his pot is lower.
Grade: A-
7. Portland Trail Blazers - Nene Hilario
Nene doesn’t have much going for him other than having highest pot in the draft. Notes were unimpressive but I guess it’s worth taking a chance on him here since the draft sucks so bad. I guess braz wanting to trade Billups for him made it a great pick.
Grade: B
8. Miami Heat - Jay Williams
It seems like Jay always looks like this coming in and he never seems to turn out good but maybe this time it'll be different. He's a PG so just needs that one random +4 or 5 TC then his camps. It could happen and he has more potential than anyone left so solid pick.
Grade: B+
9. Atlanta Hawks (from Detroit Pistons) - Drew Gooden
Didn't really pay attention to Gooden but he actually has some decent notes. I probably would've went with one of the higher ceiling guys here but Gooden should be a solid role player if he has some positive TCs and gets camps.
Grade: B-
10. Golden State Warriors (from Thunder) - Jamal Sampson
Not sure about this pick since I tend to stay away from those really raw types since I never have good TCs. He could be a decent big though if he has some big rebounding TCs and gets to 3 bpg. We'll see what happens.
Grade: C+
11. Washington Wizards (from Brooklyn Nets via Atl and Det) - Mike Dunleavy
Dunleavy looks like the typical jah pick here at 11. He looks meh right now but jah is patient with his prospects so he should turn out pretty good. Nothing super promising about his game, he just needs to have some lucky TCs.
Grade: B-
12. San Antonio Spurs (from Suns) - Dajuan Wagner
Thought Wagner would go higher because of his age and potential so happy to pick him up at 12 even though he can’t defend or rebound. Could be a nice backup 1-2 if his potential hits.
13. Chicago Bulls - Luis Scola
Another big that can't block, like I said not a huge fan of these guys especially when there isn’t much potential there. Maybe he can get to A- rebounding though, then he’d be decent. No one really “better” to draft here so can’t knock it too much.
Grade: B
