Time for an interview folks! Title is stolen from the awesome new podcast with LeBron and Redick. First up- we have Warriors GM CC ! Thanks for doing this.
1. What's your philosophy for building a team? Do you focus on scoring, defense, stocks- how you approaching things?
CC - TBH, I try to mirror other successful teams by having stocky bigs up front, wing scorers who can defend and board, and having an elite PG. A bench is important as well, whether it's having a 6th man who can play 3-4 positions or having multiple role players. This type of roster build was one of my teams two seasons ago when we won a ship. Also, if you paid attention to my other teams in BBS6, most if not all of them were a similar build although most times we fell short in the playoffs. However, it has won us two ships in BBS6/BBS7 so we plan to continue building more teams like this.
2. How do you know when it's time to blow it up and rebuild?
CC - When my team is old as shit and our record is mid throughout the entire year. However, if we are sniffing the playoffs with an average record, we might as well reset. This season is a great example. Initially our plan was to blow it up but I actually think we have a shot at the playoffs this season. Might as well try to win and earn a free AC.
3. Shawn Kemp. I got rid of that motherfucker's contract the first moment I could. He's having a bounceback year! Is he an asset or a liability for what you're looking to do going forward?
CC - Despite his big deal, I actually think he is an asset this season. We haven't had a post scorer and stocky big man like him in years. Kemp fits that bill and adds something different to our squad that we rarely had. However I would say David Robinson was the closest to being that guy but he did not score 20 ppg with us. Also, Kemp and Spree compliment each other really well on offense. We can go down low in the post or beat teams from outside. And surprisingly, Kemp is knocking down 3's outside which is a huge bonus. Ultimately our plan with him is to help us make the playoffs and see where we can go from there.
4. Cliche- let's make some picks here. Who are you picking to win the two conferences and why?
CC - Based on my predictions, I'm going with Detroit and Sac in the finals. I feel both teams have the star power to get there. Penny vs Glove pt 2!
5. Other end of the spectrum, a bit different- which team is going to get screwed and get the 5th pick in the lotto? And why do they deserve/not deserve that happening to them?
CC - Is this a rhetorical question? I'm going with the Hawks since your pick always drops! But since I just jinxed that, you will now land a top 3 pick which you deserve after having poor luck in years past.
6. Pick one player in the league right now that, if you added them to your team, you think could help you win a championship. Pretend like you can add their contract with no repercussions. Who you picking?
CC - I miss the Glove. I feel that we are one elite PG away from being in title contention again and he was that guy. Unfortunately I couldn't pass up a top 5 pick, a future 1st, and Kemp who is still really good when given the right role. Glove was also 34 years old and we felt our team needed to get younger soon. But yes, having any elite PG in the mold of the glove could help us win title #2. Hopefully we can afford one in the future again. I truly believe we will be back in title contention.
7. Alright, let's go outside of BBS. How the Giants gonna do this season? Who you picking to win the World Series?
CC - I feel the Giants will have a bounce back year. The entire offense is revamped and I also love the additions of Snell and Ray (when healthy) to our pitching staff. Jung Hoo Lee could become the next Ichiro which is also exciting as a Giants fan. However, the Dodgers will probably win it all this season based on their new additions. Rich got richer in LA. *EDITOR'S NOTE* Dodgers aren't even the best team in the NL lol
8. I've really enjoyed the "Mind the Game" podcast with LeBron and JJ Redick. Any podcasts you're listening to that you can recommend?
CC - Draymond Green podcast is interesting to listen to. He breaks down wins or losses after each game. I would recommend watching his podcast, I guess.
