Coming out of the biggest draft in BBS7 history I sat down with some of our finest Leon Rose Respected GM , habes and CC
1. Biggest draft in a long time. Was the top 4 order correct?
Leon Rose - Probably. Was going to take Melo at 3 though regardless. Wanted to build around him, but would have loved to land Lebron or Wade.
Respected GM - That was my top 4 in order, so yes.
CC - For sure. Bron and Wade was obvious top 2. Melo could’ve easily gone #3 but I like bigs over smalls all day. Bosh should be a great big that can provide stocks as well. Melo will be great but his ceiling could be Big Dog 2.0. Elite 6th man scorer from day 1.
habes - With Wade unable to play PG, I would have taken Bosh second. Wade will be great, but Bosh is four years younger and is a lock to be a franchise big. Spence said to give Royal Wade and move on, so he seems to have made Wade to be the second best player in the class, but I’ll still take Bosh.
2. Now let’s talk about picks 5-8 what are your thoughts on that order of drafting
Leon Rose - Sofo is boom or bust. The very poor quickness might give him issues and he might not be able to play big minutes, right? Not sure. I’m not seeing it with Diaw. Lacking in scoring, guess if his rebounding improves he’ll provide that advantage if he plays SG. West probably should have gone 5, followed by Kaman, then Sofo, Howard and then maybe Diaw.
Respected GM - I had West at 5. Thought he was actually a really clear cut #5 if I am being honest. Diaw at #6. Felt Kaman and SOFO might have been interchangeable at #7 and #8. Wouldn't be shocked if Howard went at those spots either but I feel like there are a ton of solid 3's out there and Howard is not necessarily a guy who I feel will fit my system that well. I thought there also could be a long shot case for Darko as well sneaking in.
CC -Sofo was iffy. Chipper clearly drafted him because of his potential. I thought he was a reach. Even someone like Sweetney had better notes than him. If you’re going big, just take West at 5. Same upside, safer floor imo. I like picks 6-8. Maybe West over Diaw but not by much. Overall the picks look good except Sofo.
habes - 5-7 I liked Diaw, West, and Howard. Howard came in as a lock to get to B-/A-/C/A-/C+, and in a best case scenario could be an elite two-way shooting guard. Diaw is raw but should have high potential, and the ability to develop at SF/PF and play SG boosts him. West having elite post defender, good jumpshot and strength, and solid inside scoring means he could be great on both ends if all goes well. Eight is tough. I guess I’ll say Sofo there. If he can’t develop a good jumpshot, he’s going to be bad on both ends, but he’s 18 and with good TCs could be an elite scorer.
3. Seems like a crap ton of trades happened. GMs seemed a big conservative on them last year. But here we are. Which was the best?
Leon Rose -Lots of fun deals, but I’m biased. I liked the deal w the Nets for #4. Could have been huge had the pick jumped to 1 or 2, but I’ll take it. Francis is a great piece for the Nets, especially on that contract. JO is still one of the best bigs in the file.
Respected GM - Yeah, I was quite frustrated because I felt GMs were trigger happy with some of these while I was at work, and I couldn't join in the fun. Liked the Nets/Hornets trade I guess.
Braz comment- SAME
CC - Iverson for scraps. Philly could’ve got more out of the best small guard in the league. He clearly wants to tank though and if he lands Dwight and Mo Will becomes elite, the trade might be ok in the end.
habes - Best as in most fair? I guess the Nets-Hornets deal. Sargo paid a premium for a chance at a top 3 pick, and I would’ve preferred it for him if the pick stayed top three. Greeme used it to cash in and now has a contender. Good, clean, fun transaction.
4. Other then the AI trade which was the worst
Leon Rose - Lmao “other than the AI deal”. Probably the Ray Allen deal. I shopped him to 10+ GMs and the value wasn’t there so I just decided to take the best offer out there. It wasn’t good. Annoyed that guys like the Bulls wouldn’t give me pick 12 for Ray, but it is what it is.
Respected GM - Every dumb trade that Aaron made to try and compete next year so fuck you very much Habes.
CC - The Hill trade. Rockets could’ve contended another season but so much for that. That franchise is set back from winning a ship. Their window is likely closed now.
habes -Grant Hill for Kyle Korver (#11), Gary Trent, Stephen Jackson, Suns 04. Marty turned around and offered me #11 for his 05 back. I would’ve given his 05 and a lot more for Hill. The other pieces don’t have value, so why take #11 without seeing what I’d prefer for your 05?
Braz take- Yepp Marty closed his own window very quickly.
5. We have seen some wild value trades for picks back. AI, Ron Artest/ blazers 05, others in the past. What is the value of getting a pick back and what is the fair price? Generally speaking
Leon Rose -Generally speaking. It really depends on the team. If you’re a winning team and want to deal for the pick back, no one should bend you over a barrel. The pick is only valuable to their own team in that scenario.
Respected GM - We have seen teams (Grizzlies) add on talent including their own pick when trying to rebuild only to fuck up the tank so it's not terrible. Mouse rushed all these trades though that he made. Mouse has a tendency to rush a lot of trades. Maybe it's the best deal out there but I didn't even see a block for AI. It's not a franchise killer though so it's whatever.
CC - Picks are always valuable. I remember trading the Philly 03 thinking they’ll be good but it became lotto. Might regret trading the Philly 05 as well since they are rebuilding now. So getting a pick back is always good.
habes - It depends on your situation, but in general if you’re trying to tank for a top pick, you should be offering a solid asset. For a team like Philly that has a top 10 player and is one season removed to just dump that guy for his 04 back is insane though.
6. Seems every GM here besides cc is changing direction next year. What is your goal.
Leon Rose -Rebuild. I’m hoping to only tank one year. Want to add pieces next offseason.
Respected GM - Signing AK and Baron and fucking the league up.
CC - Thanks for mentioning me. My goal is to get back to the playoffs.
habes - I’m probably gonna tank. I took on too much salary with Zo, Camby, and Pippen, and wouldn’t have been able to get a PG or depth without a bunch of moves. Things could change since I still have Pippen and Zo, but right now my goal is to move them for picks & exps and give the tank another season.
7. How would you camp lebron (please and thanks)
Leon Rose - Jump shot, 3 point, handles, rebounds
Respected GM - Steals, Blocks, Handles, 3point Shot and Jumpshot
CC - His outside game and handling.
habes - I would keep him on the wing, camp his inside, jumpshot, and threes, and then wait and see where else to camp.
8. Is James Posey worth a max?
Leon Rose - If you have max cap, max him. You need to steal players when you have cap. He steals the ball, scores and takers care of it. Good 3rd or 4th guy.
Respected GM - I thought he was deserving of some level of MAX. Amazing percentages as an option and a really good two-way player.
CC - I think so. 2 say wings are valuable.
habes - Yeah, he’s a max player, especially if you wait until the season’s over so that you can see your retirings before deciding.
9. Best Day 1 signing and why?
Leon Rose - All of the teams that brought back their max guys, Magic, Wolves and Knicks.
Respected GM - On day 3 we were able to get SF Hanno Möttölä to sign to a 1 year 7 mil deal. This was crucial for us. Hanno brings the culture to the Grit and Grind Griz.
pig forgot to answer this one so the above was created by chatgbpig
CC - AK and Baron re-signing. Without those guys those teams will be very mid.
habes - Outside of the obvious max re-signings, I liked the Adonal Foyle signing for Greeme. He’s nothing special but nice to get a very good shotblocker and solid rebounder for cheap.
10 Worst day 1 signing and why?
Leon Rose - I’d have to go with Miller if I have to pick one. He’s one TC away from C+ B scoring which would look ugly with that contract
Respected GM - Put me down for a Jeff McInnis worst signing of FA.
CC - Lamar Odom? Dude got locked up by Shandon Anderson 3 seasons ago. He isn’t that great to be worth a max.
habes - Nothing egregious but I’ll say Andre Miller. He’s solid, but he’s not going to be the reason you win anything, which makes him tough to value at PG. Not to say he’s really overpaid or anything, just don’t think you need to lock that guy up for six years.
1. Biggest draft in a long time. Was the top 4 order correct?
Leon Rose - Probably. Was going to take Melo at 3 though regardless. Wanted to build around him, but would have loved to land Lebron or Wade.

habes - 5-7 I liked Diaw, West, and Howard. Howard came in as a lock to get to B-/A-/C/A-/C+, and in a best case scenario could be an elite two-way shooting guard. Diaw is raw but should have high potential, and the ability to develop at SF/PF and play SG boosts him.
