1. Tell me about who you chose to use +15 mo to and why him? Did you have another idea before using it to your guy. Expectations?
Jayda : I used it on JR Smith. I chose him because I think he could use it to become a really good player instead of just a role player or 5th starter. It was between him and Biedrins, but last time I used a pot boost on a defensive big he didnt improve much at all. I do expect JR to become a really good scorer at the least now and hopefully his defense improves because of the pot boost.
royal : Well the +15 conviently came after I moved Amare, probably would have raised his value, but the potential boost was always going to Wade.
Leon Rose : Went with Carmelo. Felt like he would benefit the most. He’s already a 30 and 7 SG. Probably takes him close to 100 potential. I considered Humphries but want to see Melo be elite.
chipper : Had to give it to Sofo. Hoping that whatever stat gives him stamina gets a boost- because his fouls have definitely decreased this season. He's not in the top 10 of foul guys anymore and I've seen a clear decrease. Just need to keep him on the court and keep the other stats boosting. I thought briefly about using it on Al Jeff, but decided I wanted to keep it on a guy I knew I was for sure keeping.
stooolfan : Fred Jones, I wanted to start my rebuild around him. I made a mistake, I own it and not he is on the lakers. Oooops
2. With that, do you think giving +15 potential after 4 years is good, bad, too much? Do we need a different reward for 300k, any ideas or should we have the same?
Jayda : I wouldnt give it to a player who has been through 4 TCs unless its an older guy you dont want to retire. I think the less amount of TCs the better. Idc about rewards we could do away with them if I am being honest. Its cool, but i dont care much either way.
royal : The drafts are toned down so much, I think the pot boost and G-League are great for the league.
Leon Rose : I like it. Adds a new element to the league and should make later picks more valuable. I’m all for it.
chipper : It's perfect. Especially after the lowered ratings. Can't wait for the next one when we get to 300k!
stooolfan : I like the plus 15 its not too much but makes things interesting with fringe players. I hope on Diaw he can develope into a star.
3. Spencer has been ironing out about D-League since last offseason, as of posting any thing you want changed or revised?
Jayda : I think this is fine. Helps the value of non-lottery picks. Thats an extra +6 and potentially +5 more. That is a lot, is it enough to save some of these players? Probably. Will late round picks get camped out? Probably not. Nobody writes articles so I doubt many of these guys get camped out unless teams that are winning keep their picks. Imagine if Bobby Simmons got the extra +6 would be crazy.
royal : I don't think G-League will help a whole lot but it's nice to have and build some hype for the +5.
Leon Rose : It definitely increases the value or non lottery picks. Nearly every team will look to take advantage and get a G League pick to help develop young players.
chipper : No- that looks perfect to me. I'm glad it's not the potential boost because it would have wildly swung the values of late firsts.
stooolfan : think its just too much. I dont really think it is necessary.
4. How does the proposed G-league affect the value of picks?
Jayda : As far as trade not much in m opinion. It may change the fact that winning teams will keep their picks a little more. During the draft the value may go up but throughout the season i dont see anything changing in terms of value.
royal : Having pick 14-17, is > 10-13 now. Kind of sucks in that aspect but it is what it is.
Leon Rose : It definitely increases the value or non lottery picks. Nearly every team will look to take advantage and get a G League pick to help develop young players.
chipper : It does make the later picks much more valuable.
stooolfan : I think that's great for a lot of teams- because a lot of the rebuilding teams tend to pick up picks that end up being later. I've had a bunch over the years. Now there's a way to make those mean more.
5. Jason Kidd to Pacers, Tim Duncan to Suns, Diaw-Shaq/Fred Jones swap/debacle so far are the biggest deals who are the winners and losers of the trade deadline?
Jayda : Lakers are the big winners in terms of value. I dont think any of these teams made a move to put themselves in position to win a ring. Suns have no PG and no depth. Pacers didnt need a PG they needed a SF. Lakers now have Kobe Shaq and Fred Jones. Who knows though AI at SF won a ship.
royal : Loser is obviously Kings for the horrendous deal. Winners are all three Pacers, Lakers, Suns. Elite talent has been moved below market value.
Leon Rose : Kidd was huge considering the Pacers just gave up picks. Duncan was an amazing get but who do the Suns have at PG? Lakers reuniting Shaq and Kobe is great. I’ll go w the Lakers or Pacers winning the deadline. Losers are the Kings.
chipper : Gotta say the Lakers- but I like what I'm doing! Really improved my depth which I needed. And offloaded some dead weight. But gotta love what the Lakers did- art imitating life getting Shaq and Kobe together. I understand the Kings messed up, but it happens. I'll be honest- I think the Kidd deal is fair- but Braz could have gotten more had he shopped him earlier. But I get reaching the reset level and then pressing the blowup button to build around LeBron. It's a great strategy. As long as LBJ doesn't leave for a team that wins more in FA.
stooolfan : Yeah all these trades were garbage. My trade is very shit. I need to pay more attention. I was the clear loser, I gave more value then I got for Shaq OOOOOF
6. We're almost at the end of the season (probably done depending how fast yall reply), who do you think wins the championship?
Jayda : I wouldve said the Nuggets, but they traded JKidd. There is no clear cut team right now which is fun. If I had to pick it would be the Nets. Seems like the best team from top to bottom.
royal : I'm hoping Pacers win it, but Shaq and Kobe is fun!!! It's really up for grabs this season, lot of solid teams.
Leon Rose : I could see Indy winning it now. I like their squad. Suns need depth.
chipper : Honestly? Lots of different options here. DBW is one of the best FBB GMs there ever has been so I'll go with him. He's always great.
stooolfan : Lakers with Kobe and Shaq.
7. BBS seems to be super active lately especially with trades, who do you think the top 3 that has the most value in the league? Lebron seems to be number 1, who else? Do you think there's a chance those guys are moved?
Jayda : DWade should be top 3 as well. I think the 3rd person could be anybody, maybe Kobe. I dont know because it changes daily outside of DWade and LeBron. CP3 will be the 3d after the draft though.
royal : No bias bullshit, Crawford is the best player in the league and Lebron and Wade are up there in value. Good time to be in Indiana!!!
Leon Rose : Yah Lebron will be the most valuable guy for a while. After that, you can argue Wade, especially with the +15. Yao is beyond elite as well. That’s my top 3.
chipper : LeBron, Dirk, Jamal Crawford. And I highly doubt it- although Dan has been willing to take calls on Dirk. Maybe he's the most likely.
stooolfan : Lebron
Wade
CP3
8. What do you think has been the main difference with the previous BBS before the restart to now that makes it this engaging again? Is it just the name of players?
Jayda : I wasnt in the end of BBS so I dont know, but trading was like going to the dentist there. Here I feel people are a little more willing to deal because of the no CY at first then the 5 year CY now. Lets you take some risks
royal : This shit is literally exactly the same minus not having a waitlist.
Leon Rose : .It’s just a fresh start with not as much inflation. I think we all love this timeline of players too since we grew up on these guys.
chipper : I think it's just the name of the players. Spence is an amazing commish so any reboot is going to get engagement. The players being lower rated has made this more challenging and I think that's great. And making a 5 year CY makes things a lot better for the overall health of the league, IMO.
stooolfan : Players are not as good. Point guards dont have the handles. Makes things more interesting have to build a more complete team. I like it, I am newer around this game and it has been a lot of fun in both editions.
9. Freedom Wall- Say anything, about anything or to anyone about the league.
Jayda : Spencer always does a good job at running a league.
royal : You asked too many fucking questions, but you did a really great job coming up with the questions. Kudos.
Leon Rose : Shut up, Charles!
chipper : Someone send me a backup wing.
stooolfan : I have made a lot of bad moves lately. Prob made one of the worst trades ever LOL. Appreciate Spencer and the work he does for this hobby of mine.
10. Lastly the NBA give me your predictions about the NBA Playoffs, or rep your team or both, any surprises so far?
Jayda : Well Knicks just advanced to the second round and have to play the Pacers. Should be a fun series. I think It will be a Celtics vs Knicks ECF. West seems to be more up in the air with how well the Thunder and TWolves look. Nuggets are a constant and hard to bet against them. Id take Nuggets vs Thunder for the WCF. I think the Nuggets get back to the finals vs the Knicks!!!
royal : Celtics and Thunder. Would love a Tatum and SGA finals. But wouldn't mind if AntMan made it!!!!
Leon Rose : Knicks with a huge win last night. They carry it to the ECF to face the Celtics but lose in 7. Celtics Nuggets final seems like the likely outcome, with Denver winning it!
chipper : I'm surprised the Knicks didn't choke it in the first round against the Sixers. Genuinely. They're still chanting about Trae Young and it's funny. They'll be knocked out before the Finals
stooolfan : Just glad the lakers got eliminated.
Jayda : I used it on JR Smith. I chose him because I think he could use it to become a really good player instead of just a role player or 5th starter. It was between him and Biedrins, but last time I used a pot boost on a defensive big he didnt improve much at all.
