1. Draft is done. Let’s start with your team. How was your draft?
zinger : We had no picks. The first time in a while I didn’t make picks, especially in the lottery.
MrClubz : Had some tough choices to make. I tried moving up to pick back to back Was thinking of going Lowry but PJ Tucker looked intriguing. I never draft well so I’ll see how that pick turns out for me. If Lowry explodes in TC I’ll feel like such a dummy. One pick away from having both guys I wanted. Ugh 😩😩. Fucking Heat!!
habes : I traded in without knowing who was there because I figured with the G-League I’d get someone who could be nice. Was pretty disappointed by the options but Barea is looking nice after camps. Hoping he can have a few nice PG TCs and take over as my starter in a few seasons.
2. Roy went 1, Rondo went 2 and Gasol 3. Was this the order you thought they would go?
zinger : I would have gone Roy, Gasol then Rondo. Gasol will be great if his stocks develop. I never liked PGs that have that build like Rondo.
MrClubz : I thought LMA would go first. Roy or Gasol to go 2nd. I did not think Rondo would go 2nd but I did have him high on my list so LMA, Roy/Gasol or vice versa with those two
habes : I hadn’t looked until the draft but no, that’s not what I would’ve predicted. I like Rondo, PGs with stocks and rebounding are fun, but that’s going to be a big regret in a few seasons if his outside shot doesn’t explode. I have next to no interest in Gasol with those notes and ratings, especially at 22. It’s a rough class but I think Lowry ends up second best. His notes are very similar to Arenas’s, he’s 20, he’s a safe bet to have big development since he’s a PG. Also like Gay a lot. After that, I think some guys who look like role players now end up being really nice. Balkman, Morrison, Tucker, Thabo.
3. Who was the most surprising lotto pick?
zinger : Probably Bargs or Lou Amundson. I remember Amundson being solid as shit in the last BBS, so I guess it’s not that surprising. It also wasn’t shocking seeing shares go in the lotto, but 6 was higher than I thought he’d go. Classic boom or bust pick, so I get it for the Bulls who are just starting their rebuild.
MrClubz : Balkman? I thought it was by mistake the first time I seen it. Usually you have guys getting picked like that due to name recognition but I never really cared for him irl. I actually didnt like him at all. He didn’t hoop like he belonged in the NBA. Thought he was ass but that’s a lot of hate coming from me so I digress. Also this draft didn’t have a lot of name recognition.
habes : Balkman 4 seemed crazy at first but make him a PF and he could be very nice: elite steals, solid blocks, can probably get the rebounding to A-. Amundson at 13 was just throwing a pick away. He’s 24, he doesn’t have stocks, his midrange is D+. There’s nothing to like there.
4. One season in, thoughts on the G-League?
zinger : I like it. Did we ever find out who won the +5 from last season? I do just wish we would open it up to all picks after the lotto. Idk why we cut it off at 40.
MrClubz : I didn’t have any Gleague players last year and so not really sure what to expect of it. Interested to see how it plays out in the league going forward because Guillermo Diaz needs some TLC to become the man I foresee he can.
habes : It’s great. I love it!
5. Looking at who was drafted after 13, who’s going to benefit strongly from a G-League stint?
zinger : Maybe Tyus Thomas. He needs a lot. +16 boards, +9 blocks, some jump shot, maybe handles?
MrClubz : Diaz!! Hopefully he turns into something decent
habes : Two additional RCs aren’t going to make or break anyone. I view them as a fun add-on, not a difference maker. I do think that between Josh Boone, Hilton Armstrong, and Pops Mensa Bonsu there’s going to end up being a stud shotblocker in there. IIRC those guys all had nice blocks in college. So maybe one of them gets blocks, strength, and rebs camps and ends up a nice big.
6. Any FA movers?
zinger : I don’t think we’ll see any big guys move. I used my max cap on acquiring GWall instead of trying to sign Yao. Hope it pays off.
MrClubz : Nash is finished in SAC, Mar didn’t have a long stay in DEN, I didn’t see Yao testing but here we are but I still think he stays. Shaq might stay in LA. Tough to build around the team but I think Nanz loved the Shaq and Kobe vibes in LA
habes : I’m too late on this so I’ll just comment on a few of them. I like the Ed Smith signing for Philly. Love the Ray contract for OKC. The Ben signing is pretty nice too although for whatever reason I found him really disappointing when I had him. He took 200 fewer shots last season than when I had him, and I would’ve liked him a lot more if he did that for me.
7. Are the Cavs going to repeat as champs?
zinger : Probably not. There’s too many good teams in the east.
MrClubz : W/O Yao I don’t think the Cavs can with. With the amount of GMs that have cap he might want a change of scenery and leave CLE. If it does happen I think Cavs try to rebuild
habes : Nah. They lost Ed but they were lucky to make it out with Boston, Washington, and Philly in the conference anyway.
8. Will the Grizzlies repeat as Western Conference
zinger : Again, probably not. Looking for other teams to emerge. I’ll take the field in both conferences.
MrClubz : Grizz are interesting. I didn’t think they had enough fire power to go that far into the playoffs but the D #pause# must have been amazing to carry them that far. In the end Yao was too much for them boys. But “Tell them boys in the West, the East is back up!”
habes : I guess so. Denver and OKC are the only new teams in the mix, right? And GSW are rebuilding. Not much competition.
9. With the CY year being changed and now the G-League added, it there something else you’d like to see added/changed/removed?
zinger : Just let us trade more draft picks, 2 firsts off the roster page.
MrClubz : I think we’re find where we’re at. Let’s see how these changes works out first. Not seeing anything right now that I want removed I’m sure that will change though.
habes : I’d like Spence to start sprinkling in gimmicky players and second round steals. Nothing crazy, just a touch of variety in the classes. But otherwise nah, I’m happy with the league.
10. What is your ideal summer looking like?
zinger : Ideal summer? No work whatsoever. Lots of traveling, parks, zoos, museums, aquariums, beaches with the fam.
MrClubz : Ideal? Great word because I don’t go out much. More of a homebody but I love to food and the so ideally it would be a couple of road trips to try new food spots. I love finding a great restaurant with good atmosphere inside or even a nice outside eating area on a non windy day. I have to explore Philly restaurant scene more. Also have to try places in D.C. They say it’s some good eats out there. 👀👀
