Pacers send:
Draymond Green
Derek Fisher
Sixers send:
Chris Bosh
Gerald Wallace
It's a sad day for the Philly organization, but after strong consideration and a disappointment over the last few seasons, we felt as though it was time for a significant change for the franchise. The team we have assembled has had chemistry issues, and an inability to stay fully healthy and personally I've grown bored and impatient with the "potential" of this team.
Bosh has been an amazing player for us over his career and became the best defensive big man in the league through our development, but with a contract year approaching and a much deserved max contract looming, we felt as though now was the time to part ways before having to commit to a 6 year deal.
Although he is still only 28, our team hasn't shown enough overall for us to be content keeping this core together any longer. And with the lack of assets, it makes things difficult to add pieces around them.
With Bosh being publicly available, we only received 3 concrete offers with the other 2 being very respectable, and with multiple picks/players being included. Denver GM Ryan Braz sent us an offer we considered to be very good, but at the end of the day we really really like Draymond Green, and think he could be a very special player for us in the future.
Draymond is a guy every championship team needs, and we think with our development program, and the fact he is on a team controlled rookie deal, we will be able to allow him to flourish while having the cap flexibility to hopefully add other players through free agency.
We've always had a great working relationship with the Indiana Pacers organization and there's been times they've done deals that might have benefited our side more than theirs, and sometimes you gotta keep the relationship beneficial for both sides. Could we have gotten more? Possibly, but we think in time Draymond is going to be a very very good player and we're super excited to have him.
We think once we move JR, Igoudala, Sergio, and Martin individually for more assets, we should have a good amount of youth, picks, and cap space going into this off season to hopefully be in even better shape than ever before.
