1. Minnesota Timberwolves - Dirk Nowitzki PF 7'0'' 245 20 B- B D+ C C+ A
Good jumpshot, strength and handling. Solid inside scoring and 3 point shot.
In my opinion, there is no clear cut first overall pick. There are like 3 to 4 guys that can be considered for this selection and this mock, I decided on Dirk for the Minnesota Timberwolves due to the fact that they have Stephon Marbury already. Dirk will score with the best of them but his lack of stocks will hurt his value. Is the scoring enough to make him the number one overall pick?
2. New York Knicks - Mike Bibby PG 6'1'' 190 20 C B B C D+ A
Good jumpshot, quickness and steals. Solid handles.
Mike Bibby is probably the guy that I think should go number one but like I said given Marbury in Minnesota, it doesn’t make much sense. He is a surefire 25 point per game point guard and should take care of the ball. The Knicks get themselves a franchise player here at number two.
3. Denver Nuggets - Vince Carter SF 6'6'' 220 21 B+ C+ C C C A
Elite jumping. Solid inside scoring, jumpshot, strength and steals.
The Denver Nuggets already have Chauncey Billups and Marcus Camby as their cornerstones. Here at number three, they add one of the best wings in the draft in Vince Carter. Carter is a future 25 to 30 point per game wing. He doesn’t offer much on defense but his scoring should make up for that.
4. Toronto Raptors - Antawn Jamison PF 6'8'' 223 22 B+ C C- C B- A
Good defensive rebounding, strength, inside scoring and handling.
It might be hard for Toronto to pass up on Paul Pierce here, but Jamison is probably my favorite player in the draft. Not many wings can rebound the ball like Jamison and he should score with the best of them. That rebounding is a huge positional advantage …big big fan of Antoine Jamison.
5. Philadelphia 76ers - Paul Pierce SF 6'7'' 235 21 B B- C C C+ A
Good strength. Solid jumping, jumpshot, inside scoring and 3 point shot.
Mouse gets his guy in Paul Pierce here at number five. This just shows how deep this draft is to be able to get a guy like Paul Pierce with the fifth overall selection. He will be an elite scorer and rebounds the ball pretty well for a wing. He may turn it over quite a bit, but you can live with that given his scoring ability. The top five in this draft can really go in any order and it would not surprise me to see anyone of these guys go first overall.
6. Indiana Pacers - Rashard Lewis SF 6'10'' 215 19 C+ B D+ C C A
Good jumpshot. Solid handling, 3 point shot and strength.
Unfortunately, for Royal, the draft falls off here at number six. Despite that, Rashard Lewis should be a hell of a wing in this league. At only 19 years old, he has the potential to be one of the best scoring players in the league.
7. Portland Trailblazers - Raef LaFrentz C 6'11'' 240 22 B- C+ D+ C+ C+ B
Good strength and handles. Solid jumpshot and blocks.
I’m definitely higher on Raef than most after looking at his notes. He has good strength and handles. The solid blocks is a huge plus. Make sure you camp those, as well as his rebounds and you’ll have yourself one of the better bigs in the league. He fits in nicely next to Cato.
8. Minnesota Timberwolves (via Heat) - Larry Hughes SG 6'5'' 184 19 C+ C C+ B C A
Solid jumpshot, quickness, steals, perimeter defense and strength.
Our buddy Eduardo must be very busy to not even fill out a depth chart giving the Minnesota Timberwolves another top 10 pick. After landing Dirk, the wolves add Larry Hughes, who looks like a boom or bust type shooting guard. With Larry Hughes, Stephon, Marbury, Dirk Nowitzki, and Stephen Jackson, the Minnesota Timberwolves have themselves a fantastic young core. Brandon needs to get a little more active to camp these players in order for them to reach their full potential.
9. Los Angeles Lakers - Al Harrington PF 6'9'' 230 18 C+ C+ C- C C+ A
Good strength. Solid jumpshot. Mediocre inside scoring and steals.
At this point in the draft Al Harrington is worth the risk given his age of 18. He has a solid chance of having that potential jump to 100 after training camp. He’s got a solid base and should you be able to get his inside and outside to B- after camps, and before training camp, the possibility of him exploding has to entice a GM. I’m very curious how Al Harrington will progress in this league.
10. Los Angeles Clippers - Robert Traylor C 6'8'' 284 21 B- D+ F+ C+ C+ B
Elite strength. Solid inside scoring. Mediocre blocks and steals.
The Clippers keep finding themselves towards the back end of the lottery, and as a result are missing out on the elite prospects. Despite that, Robert Taylor looks like he has a solid base to become a pretty good big man in this league.
11. Golden State Warriors - Cuttino Mobley SG 6'4'' 190 23 C+ B C+ C C- B
Good jumpshot. Solid handles, steals and strength.
In my opinion, the Golden State Warriors are a surprise team here in the lottery. Cuttino Mobley has solid notes that include a good jumpshot, and the ability to take care of the basketball, as well as steal it. Mobley has the potential to be similar to last year’s steal in Derek Anderson.
12. Detroit Pistons
Jason Williams PG 6'1'' 190 22 C C+ A- C C- B
Elite quickness. Good jumpshot. Solid handles. Mediocre steals.
The draft board works out nicely here for the Detroit Pistons. Jason Williams probably should’ve gone earlier, but it seems like the Clippers and Warriors did not have a need for point guard. The man that goes by white chocolate is going to come into the league with elite quickness and a good jumpshot, which is what you want out of your point guard.
13. Chicago Bulls - Michael Dickerson SG 6'5'' 190 23 B B- C- C C- C
Good jumpshot. Solid inside scoring, strength, jumping and quickness. Mediocre 3 point shot and steals.
Dickerson rounds out the lottery and it’s the first player taken without any initial notes and C potential. However, in the Q&A portion of draft notes, we can see that Michael Dickerson looks like a potential steal. This screams a play pick. Play good at finding steals, and diamonds in the rough and Dickerson looks like one.
Good jumpshot, strength and handling. Solid inside scoring and 3 point shot.
