1 Orlando Magic (from 76ers) - Dirk Nowitzki PF 7'0'' 245 20 B- B D+ C C+ A
Good jumpshot, strength and handling. Solid inside scoring and 3 point shot.
Ladies and Gentlemen, we have a trade!!! What a fucking trade it was too. A deal so big it made us remember the early days of BBS. Iverson was shipped to Philly for Dirk and a few other picks, including #13. This is the classic win-win deal. The Magic get a fresh start, including two lottery picks and their own 99 back. Fresh rebuild coming in Orlando. Philly is a year out from CY and get a win now piece to go with TMac and Dyess. That’s a pretty impressive trio to build around. Good job all around. As for Dirk, he comes with question marks. He should be a top scoring big, but the lack of stocks is concerning. Fun player though.
2 Indiana Pacers - Paul Pierce SF 6'7'' 235 21 B B- C C C+ A
Good strength. Solid jumping, jumpshot, inside scoring and 3 point shot.
Ray Allen gets a running mate. I’m still questioning the KVH pick and not moving him to SF, but maybe he becomes something solid with camps and TC - like a solid backup 2-4. As for Pierce, you could have made the case for PP going #1. He should score from all 3 levels and will be that #2 option behind Ray Allen.
3 Minnesota Timberwolves - Vince Carter SF 6'6'' 220 21 B+ C+ C C C A
Elite jumping. Solid inside scoring, jumpshot, strength and steals.
Really was a toss up for me between Dirk, Pierce and Vince. They are so close in talent. Similar notes to Pierce, but elite jumping. Carter, SJax, Marbury is a fun core. The Wolves need to work on adding bigs now.
4 New York Knicks - Antwan Jamison PF 6'8'' 223 22 B+ C C- C B- A
Good defensive rebounding, strength, inside scoring and handling.
Absolutely love Jamison. After the top 3, he was the clear cut best wing available. Highest rebounding in the draft. Impressive for a wing. Hell thrive in a balanced offense. The Knicks have themselves a franchise player finally.
5 Los Angeles Lakers - Rashard Lewis SF 6'10'' 215 19 C+ B D+ C C A
Good jumpshot. Solid handling, 3 point shot and strength.
I do like Shard, but Bibby is my top guy on the board. I realize the Lakers have big Ed at PG, but you take the BPA and worry about fit later. Despite that, Shard is a nice complement to Kobe. Move Kobe’s ass to SG and let these two be your top two scorers going forward. Future 20PPG guy.
6 Denver Nuggets - Mike Bibby PG 6'1'' 190 20 C B B C D+ A
Good jumpshot, quickness and steals. Solid handles.
Value over everything. That’s what Braz and the Nuggets did with this pick. Truly, this was a 6 player draft with a drop off after here. Bibby and Billups (should they stay in Denver) will be a great scoring combo, despite both being listed at PG. The rebounding cap at SG and rules should allow for 2 Pg systems to make its way back into the league, which I love. Edit: the Nuggets got the 2nd pick in my mock here at 6. Great value!
7 Charlotte Hornets (from Trail Blazers) - Raef LaFrentz C 6'11'' 240 22 B- C+ D+ C+ C+ B
Good strength and handles. Solid jumpshot and blocks.
I loved LaFrentz’s notes. I was expecting poor to mediocre blocks. Once I saw solid, I knew I had to draft him as a pairing with JO. He’s borderline B- B- defense/rebounds. I’ll need to camp his ass heavy in boards before TC. He’s always an interesting player in BBS and excited to have him.
8 Charlotte Hornets (from Toronto Raptors) - Larry Hughes SG 6'5'' 184 19 C+ C C+ B C A
Solid jumpshot, quickness, steals, perimeter defense and strength.
I wanted Hughes or Harrington and didn’t have another player I loved, so I paid a hefty price to move up 2 spots to secure one. In hindsight, it looks like I could have stood pat, but it was worth it to lock in Hughes. He’s borderline B- C+ at 19 years old and is one of the few guards with B defense in a league littered with C defenders on the wings. Hughes will be a nice SG or even elite backup 1/2 for me.
9 Detroit Pistons - Cuttino Mobley SG 6'4'' 190 23 C+ B C+ C C- B
Good jumpshot. Solid handles, steals and strength.
Mobley looks like a solid guard. I don’t think he’ll be an elite player, but you never know with these drafts. I mean, look how elite BJax is!! (Shameless plug). The Pistons need to start adding pieces before their CY… as do a bunch of teams.
10 Toronto Raptors (from Hornets) - Al Harrington PF 6'9'' 230 18 C+ C+ C- C C+ A
Good strength. Solid jumpshot. Mediocre inside scoring and steals.
The definition of a boom or bust prospect. I strongly considered Al at 7 and 8. I’m assuming he gets moved to SF and would hope he gets camped to B- B- scoring before TC to give him the best chance to blow up. It would not shock me to see him blow up in TC and him end up being the best player in the draft. It also would surprise me to see him be unplayable. Big risk. Bigger reward.
11 Los Angeles Clippers - Jason Williams PG 6'1'' 190 22 C C+ A- C C- B
Elite quickness. Good jumpshot. Solid handles. Mediocre steals.
White chocolate! Somehow Diego is always picking 11th in drafts. Man, pick a direction and commit!! With that said, JWill was the correct pick here. Didn’t see another guy that jumped out here. Hell be a fun player but is he redundant with Nash?
12 Minnesota Timberwolves (from Heat) Robert Traylor C 6'8'' 284 21 B- D+ F+ C+ C+ B
Elite strength. Solid inside scoring. Mediocre blocks and steals.
Just a guy if you ask me. The draft really falls off here after JWill, but Nesby would have been my pick. WHO you may ask is Nesby? Take a look at his notes. Impressive player.
13 Orlando Magic (via 76ers, from Rockets) Nazr Mohammed C 6'10'' 221 21 C C- D+ B- B- B
Hood post defense, defensive rebounding and strength.
Love Nazr here. Should have gone 12. For those of you wondering, that’s GOOD post defense, not hood. Anyways, Nazr has the makings of a starting big. At worst, he’s a nice 3rd big for the Magic. Do the basic big man camps of +8 to D rebounds, O rebounds and blocks and you’ll have a player.
Good jumpshot, strength and handling. Solid inside scoring and 3 point shot.
