1. Knicks - Elton Brand PF 6'9'' 275 20 B C- C- C+ B A
Elite strength. Good inside scoring and post defense. Solid jumpshot and rebounding.
In a league with an influx of good young wings, Brand has to stand out as a strong option to go 1st overall. The Knicks have had some poor luck, but a lot of that is failing to pick a direction and stick with it. They haven’t really hardcore tanked until now. Brand should be the leagues next good young big man.
2. Lakers - Andrei Kirilenko SF 6'9'' 220 18 C+ C C+ B C+ A
Good blocks and steals. Solid quickness, handling and jumpshot
Now the draft starts imo. The Lakers can go in multiple directions here at 2. I chose the 18 year old elite stock man. If you camp his offense and be patience with his develop, you’ll have one of the leagues few 2 way players. Big fan of AK.
3. Knicks (from Jazz) - Baron Davis PG 6'3'' 209 20 C+ C+ B- B C A
Good steals and quickness. Solid jumpshot, strength and handling.
What a position for the Knicks to be in. It’s one of the best drafts in terms of lottery talent and they could be picking twice in the top three. They added their big man and now get the PG to go with Brand. Baron should be the first PG off the board and has the ideal base for a rookie PG.
4. Pistons - Shawn Marion SF 6'7'' 220 21 B- C D+ B- B- A
Good strength, jumping and steals. Solid jumpshot and handles.
Love Marion. Does he block? Can he play PF successfully? These are questions we need answered. Regardless, he’s a fun FBB player and should be a top 5/6 player in this draft. The Pistons need talent everywhere and could use a player of Marion’s caliber.
5. Hornets - Ron Artest SF 6'7'' 260 20 B- C+ C A- C A
Elite steals and strength. Good perimeter defense and jumpshot.
I could go Francis here, but opted for Artest. Never had him in a league and like his notes. Elite steals is hot. Can he develop that scoring to be a solid 3rd option? That’s the ultimate question.
6. Nuggets - Manu Ginobili SG 6'6'' 205 22 B- B- C C+ C A
Good jumpshot. Solid inside scoring, handles, steals, strength and perimeter defense.
The Nuggets, like the Hornets, find themselves in this part of the lottery yet again. Manu has all of the tools needed to be a top SG here. You could argue for Francis, but the Nuggets are already hoarding young PGs.
7. Blazers (from Rockets) - Steve Francis PG 6'3'' 195 22 B C+ C+ C C A
Elite jumping and quickness. Good jumpshot. Solid steals.
The Blazers added this pick in the Joe Smith deal last offseason, then oddly complained and said via PM he wouldn’t have dealt w the Hornets if he knew I was the Hornets GM. Just weirdo takes all around. Anyways, Francis is the top player on the board available. Nice addition to a blazers squad needing top talent.
8. Pacers - Lamar Odom SF 6'10'' 220 20 C+ C+ B C C+ A
Solid strength, jumpshot, passing and inside scoring. Mediocre handles.
The Pacers might have my favorite young core with Ray, Pierce and Dampier. They could use another big here; but there’s not one worth taking. I expect the Pacers to trade this pick for a win now player anyways.
9. Wolves - Richard Hamilton SG 6'6'' 185 21 B+ C C B C- B
Elite jumpshot. Good inside scoring, handling and quickness. Soldi steals and perimeter defense.
Another team loaded on wings. Fit wise, Rip isn’t it. But he’s the best player available. If they wanted to go for fit, Andre Miller would be a suitable choice. Rip with elite jump shot and good inside is fun. Weird build for RIP as he was a good outside shooter IRL, but looks fun here.
10. Blazers - Corey Maggette SF 6'6'' 218 20 B+ C C C C B
Good inside scoring, strength, jumping and jumpshot. Solid handles and quickness.
Maggette is similar to Rip, albeit a little younger. I had Maggette last BBS and he was a fun player. I expect the same here. Nice addition to team with Francis.
11. Wolves (from Heat) - Andre Miller PG 6'3'' 200 23 C+ C B B C- B
Good jumpshot. Soldi steals, handles and strength.
Another lottery pick given up. The Wolves double dip here in the lottery and can now target a position of need. Miller may never be a star, but will be a serviceable Pg for the Wolves. That squad should have enough scoring anyways.
12. Magic - James Posey SF 6'8'' 215 23 C B C- B+ C B
Good jumpshot. Solid handles, quickness, steals and strength.
Posey! Love this player. Was great in the last BBS, IIRC. Good wing defenders are far and few between here. A very good 3&D wing to pair with Dirk and DA. Nice fit.
13. Hawks - Jason Terry SG 6'2'' 185 22 C B B C D+ B
Good quickness and jumpshot. Solid 3 point shot, handles and steals.
The draft is really starting to slow down now. Usually, we see Terry be PG eligible, which boosts his value. Here, he looks more like that traditional backup 1/2 combo guard who can come off the bench and score in bunches.
