In this article, we wanted to take a look and target some players across the league who could become significantly better with camping as we've entered the 4th season and these players haven't been through camping yet. We're going to try and not point out obvious guys like rookies or big name sophomores who are obviously going to be camped at some point.
Jim Jackson SG 29 6'6'' 220 B B C+ C C C
At this point Jackson is approaching his 30s but it's never too late to invest in a player. He's been a 15+ ppg player his entire career, and he's still currently uncamped. His offensive skill could elevated to another level if the +25 went all into scoring camps. Not a bad guy to try and target in free agency, or look to extend yourself if you're the Miami Heat.
Elden Campbell PF 31 6'11'' 215 B- C D+ A- B D
Campbells been a solid big in this league spending his first 3 seasons with the Cavaliers. With career averages of 10.6 points, 9.3 rebounds, and just under 2 blocks per game, Campbell could become an even better contributor with an additional +22 that he currently still has remaining. Whether the Magic keep him or look to flip for value, he's a player worth monitoring.
Keith Van Horn SF 24 6'10'' 220 B B- C- C+ C+ C
Just trying to promote one of my guys with this one lol. Van Horn still has +16 remaining and could become a 15-18 ppg guy given the opportunity on the right team. Still on the younger side and on team control for 2 more seasons. Not a bad player to take a flier on if you're willing to invest the camping.
Todd Day SG 29 6'6'' 188 B- A- C A- C+ D
Days been a player I tried to get in free agency before, but I'm surprised he's been a mid level guy over these past few seasons. In his only year as a starter he averaged just under 15 points per game, and he's still uncamped. You could potentially get his offense to B A ratings in the best case scenario. If you're the Wizards, maybe you extend him for a couple seasons and invest the effort to elevate those categories.
519 LaPhonso Ellis PF 29 6'8'' 240 B B D+ C+ B C
Ellis is another guy on the Wizards that caught my attention. He's been a 20 ppg guy with a +22 remaining. Pretty much in the same situation as Day... work on that offense and you could maybe get him to B+ B+ and increase the scoring to 22-25 best case. I don't want to name a ton of Wizards guys but Voshon Leonard is also another uncamped guy who could be better. Under team control for 3 seasons, and already at C+ A- currently.
Nick Van Exel PG 28 6'1'' 170 C A- A- B+ D+ C
Van Exel was a guy everyone loved when the Cavs signed him and a big reason was the opportunity to work on his development. Uncamped point guard who already looks good, signed long term on a team friendly contract. The Cavs will probably camp him and utilize the +25 to make him even more dangerous offensively. He's been a back up throughout his career, but with the opportunity to get significant playing time in Cleveland, Nick should have a breakout season this year.
Dino Radja C 32 6'11'' 225 B C D+ B+ B+ C
Another guy on Cleveland who is uncamped and already a consistent contributor. Radja has career averages of 12.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game and could become an even better post presence defensively, offensively, or both with camps in each category.
Derek Fisher PG 25 6'1'' 200 C A- C A- C C
Fisher does already have a +10, but with +15 remaining he has a ton of room for improvement. He's spent his first 4 years with Detroit, and recently agreed to a 6 year extension at a little less than max money. Look for the Pistons to give him the remaining camps and potentially put him in the conversation as one of the better point guards in the league. He is coming off a season where he averaged 21.3 points, 6.4 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 2 steals in just under 35 minutes.
4 P.J. Brown PF 30 6'11'' 225 B- C- D+ B A- B
Brown is a solid veteran big has career averages of 11.3 points, 10 rebounds, and just over a block per game. Brown has spent his 4 seasons with the Pistons, and has 3 more years remaining on his contract. A +25 could prolong his career and also elevate his game to one of the more respectable bigs in the league. He could use some work on inside scoring as well as post defense and shot blocking. B B+ A could be a realistic possibility with those camps.
2 Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf PG 30 6'1'' 162 C A B+ B- D C
Mahmoud has been on 4 teams in 4 seasons, and initially wasn't coveted during the creation draft. He broke out during his season in Milwaukee where they signed him with the LLE, but has since been getting big pay days and has been performing at a high level. He's still uncamped this far into the league and with Indiana looking to become a serious threat in the East, maybe they throw some camps his way to take him to another level on the court. They extended him for a couple seasons so maybe Rauf finally has a stable home for a few years.
04 Erick Dampier C 24 6'11'' 265 C C- D- B+ A- B
Dampier is another guy on Indiana who was recently extended and worth investing in. He's only 24 years old, with a +22 still remaining. Throw some camps on blocking, post defense, and rebounding and Dampier could become an elite defensive presence alongside Antonio McDyess for the foreseeable future.
Jim Jackson SG 29 6'6'' 220 B B C+ C C C
